Prof. Esther Gicheru is an accomplished academic, cooperative development practitioner, and institutional leader. She serves as the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Finance, Planning and Administration at The Co-operative University of Kenya and is an Associate Professor in Cooperative Management and Organization Development.

She holds a PhD in Cooperative Management & Development from Cebu Doctors’ University (Philippines), a Master’s Degree in Cooperative Management & Organization Development from the University of Leicester (UK), a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Nairobi, and a Diploma in Counselling Psychology from Tangaza University College. Her expertise spans:

  • Cooperative development and public service
  • Cooperative education, policy, and institutional capacity building
  • Governance, strategy, and organizational development
  • Research in cooperative management, gender, and education

Prof. Gicheru brings deep cooperative philosophy, policy insight, and academic rigor to the Board. Her leadership anchors SCK’s strategic direction in cooperative values, institutional sustainability, and capacity development for member SACCOs.
